Often used interchangeably in the non-technical community, routing and switching represent two fundamentally different concepts in network solutions.  The devices used to perform these functions look somewhat similar, but they each have distinctly different jobs.   Routing involves moving data among the various networks.  Switching involves moving data between devices that exist within the same network.

It's kind of funny to ask but, what would life be like without texting?   Could you even imagine buying a brand new mobile phone today that didn't have any measure of texting capability?  NO... and why you ask?  It's because the world processes things at different speeds these days. There's a certain expectation that comes with instant messaging and typically that is fast and easy communication-a simple message requiring a simple response without having to lift up a handset.

Put yourself into a local buying mindset.  Now, what is the first thing you do when you need to find out if a store has what you need? Perhaps you check their website, but if you can't find the answer fast enough- you pick up the phone. Maybe you googled them to find out their hours or location information, but out of all the ways we connect with a business, when it matters most and you need an answer what do you do?  You guessed it - you make a phone call.
